Sweden has become the first country to register sex as a sport with the first-ever European Sex Championship slated to be held in Gothenburg on June 8. The contestants will have daily 45-minute to one-hour bouts of sexual encounters and they will be judged under 16 disciplines on parameters such as endurance, chemistry between partners, and understanding of sex.
Reports claiming Sweden announcing sex as a sport has turn out to be fake!
Earlier today, several media reports claimed that the European country had announced the first-ever sex competition in the world. Reports even claimed that the first ever sex competition would be held on June 8 under the Swedish Sex Federation.
However, fact-check website Newscheker said that no official website for such a competition exists.
The website, citing an article by Swedish news outlet Goterborgs-Posten, dated April 26, 2023, said that an application to have sex classified as a sport was rejected.
NDTV has also said that there is indeed a Federation of Sex in Sweden. However, its application to become a member of the National Sports Confederation was denied.
According to Newschecker, the Swedish Sports Federation has also dubbed the media reports as fake.
“The Swedish Sports Confederation has drawn attention to the fact that in some parts of the international media, news is currently being spread that a sex federation has become a member of The Swedish Sports Confederation. It is false information with the aim of smearing Swedish sports and Sweden. There is no Sex Federation that is a member of the Swedish Sports Confederation. All this information is false,” Anna Setzman, Head of Communication and Press, Swedish Sports Confederation, was quoted as saying by the factcheker website.
