Nigeria 63rd Independence Anniversary: Tinubu Declares Low-Key Celebrations

The nation’s 63rd independence anniversary celebration for this year is to be low-key. This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr. George Akume, who also serves as the chairman of the organising committee while speaking at the World Press to kick start this year’s celebration on Monday, October 25, 2023 in Abuja.

Addressing the gathering at the event, Akume reiterates President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to ameliorate the suuferi g of Nigerians as a result of the oil subsidy removal. He told told the people the president is aware of what Nigerians are passing through but the pains will soon be over as other developed countries had their tough times. Enumerating   some measures taken by the government to mitigate the suffering of the people, Akume said the federal government had already distributed N2billion to all the states to be shared as palliatives to Nigerians, effort to provide NGC buses across the country to reduce hardship facing by Nigerians is in the pipeline and the ongoing negotiations with the organized labour leaders are all targeted at the well-being of the workers and Nigerians in general.

He appealed to Nigerians to bear with the government while the government is doing its best to better the lots of Ñigerians. He also told the gathering that the decision of President Bola Tinubu to make this year celebration low key is to reflect the prevailing situation in the country at the moment.
