GENDER BASED SEXUAL VIOLENCE: WOMEN AFFAIRS MINISTER TO SET UP MOBILE COURTS FOR OFFENDERS

In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,  Barrister Uju Kennedy -Ohanenye,  The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs disclosed in a Press Conference on Monday In Abuja the ministry’s resolve to set up Mobile Courts to ensure quick dispensation of justice for survivals of all forms of gender based sexual violence,  female genital mutilation among other social vices in the country.

Barrister Uju -Kennedy reiterated that the ministry has resolved to collaborate with Federal Ministry of Justice /Attorney General of the Federation,  The Governor’s forum and Department of State Security Services in setting up mobile courts to ensure that justice is served after thorough investigation  has been carried out.

On The University of Calabar sex-for-grade scandal, the Minister maintained a firm stand to pursue the matter to a logic end and ensure that Justice is served.

Also at the event are representatives of Nigerian students Union (NANS)   North Central Region and  President of Nigeria Female Students, Mr. Kankia and Princess Alice Omoniyi who on behalf the group pledged truer unalloyed support for the Minister in stamping out all forms of sexual violence and gender discrimination in all tertiary institutions in Nigeria .

Earlier in her address,  Barrister Uju Kennedy -Ohanenye expressed her resolve to use an innovative sustainable approach in running the affairs of the ministry. These innovative include setting up Sanitary Pad Production Centre to reduce the cost of bulk purchase of sanitary towels being shared to some selected schools. Replacement of gas cylinders being shared to Nigerian rural women with charcoal burners and biogas stoves.  The Minister disclosed further that the decision to give out Gas cylinders in the past is not sustainable due to the cost of refilling the cylinders.  More importantly,  it is cost effective one gas cylinder could buy many charcoal burners and biogas.

Barrister Uju Kennedy -Ohanenye encourage women groups to form cooperatives and register with the ministry so that they can be empowered with the production machines to boost the economic livelihood Of Nigerian Women and  for nation building.

Furthermore, the Minister promise that the Women Affairs ministry’s creche which has been underutilised and other properties will become functional within her hundred days in office .

In an earlier remark,  Mr. Olujinmi Oyetomi, Director of Press and Public Relations thanked the Honourable Minister even as the directors in the ministry have resolve to support the Minister in The New method of running the affairs of the ministry in line with its mandate.
