SAD: Ghanaian Footballer Confirmed Dead In Turkey Quake

 

Ghanaian international footballer Christian Atsu has been confirmed dead after two weeks under rubles in Turkey.

The 31-year-old former Black Stars forward was initially reported to have been found few hours after the unfortunate incident but reports later indicated it was a mistake identity.

As a result, some members of his family and his agent Nana Sekyere flew to Turkey to team up with his club in search of him.

During the recent search, Atsu’s shoes were the first among other belongings to be found. Later, the search and rescue team found his passport and other belongings which were confirmed by his agent.

Murat Uzunmehmet, the player’s Turkish agent, first announced the news at 5:00am Ghana time.

Mubarak Wakaso, one of the closest friends of Atsu, also took to Facebook with a short message saying ‘Rest Well’.

Nana Sechere, another one of the player’s agents who has been on the scene, gave another confirmation that the player’s body has been recovered.

He scored a last minute winning goal for Hatayspor, a day before the earthquake.

He was the 2015 AFCON Player of the Tournament.

He was in the 2015 and 2017 AFCON Team of the Tournament. He won the 2015 AFCON Goal of the Tournament award.

He was named as Portuguese club, Vitesse’s Player of the Year in 2014.

He played for Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Porto, Bournemouth, Rio Ave, Malaga, Hatayspor, Vitesse and Al-Raed.
