Access Holdings Names Bolaji Agbede as Acting CEO to replace Late Wigwe

Access Holdings Plc has announced the appointment of Ms. Bolaji Agbede as Acting Group Chief Executive Officer following the death of its Group Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe, in a helicopter crash in the United States on Friday.

In a notification to the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Monday night, the company said the appointment of Ms. Agbede was subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The company explained that until her appointment, Ms. Agbede was the company’s most senior founding Executive Director in charge of Business Support.

Agbede has nearly three decades of professional experience cutting across banking and business consultancy.

The appointment comes after Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the organization’s previous Group Chief Executive Officer, passed away.

Wigwe, his wife, son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group, perished in a helicopter crash on Friday.

The nomination was contingent upon Central Bank of Nigeria approval, according to a February 12, 2024, announcement from the company’s Board of Directors.
Following up on its February 11, 2024 announcement, the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc (‘the Company’) has announced today that Ms. Bolaji Agbede has been appointed as the company’s Acting Group Chief Executive Officer. This comes after the untimely death of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the company’s previous Group Chief Executive Officer, on February 9, 2024.A portion of the statement stated, “The appointment is contingent upon the Central Bank of Nigeria’s confirmation.

Ms. Bolaji Agbede was the company’s most senior founding Executive Director in charge of Business Support

Agbede, an Assistant General at Access Bank since 2003, has almost thirty years of expertise in the banking and business consulting industries.

She worked for the bank in a variety of capacities, including Head of Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022. In 2022, she was named Executive Director of Business Support, the position she held until her new assignment.

She graduated from the University of Lagos with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics and from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom in 2002 with a master’s degree in business administration.In addition, she is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Management UK.
